Rep/Select Overview

Select teams are typically comprised of both age groups in the division (i.e., 10U and 11U). Teams play in the York Simcoe Baseball Association, with a regular season schedule of mostly doubleheaders on weekends. If a volunteer coach and enough players are available in a division, Select team selection will be done in the fall, with a winter workout program starting in January.

Program Components

On average, 12-14 players are selected for each team. Registration fees for competitive players are approximately double the cost of house league. Additional team fees can be avoided if a team raises enough through sponsorship and fundraising.

A typical season consists of the following:

  • 16-18 regular season games
  • 3-5 weekend tournaments (1-2 out of town with a hotel stay)
  • Practices (1 per week on average)
  • OBA Qualifiers in mid-August
  • OBA Championships on Labour Day weekend for teams that qualify.

Off-season commitments:

  • Indoor winter workouts (1 per week on average, January to April)
  • Possible fall workouts
  • Parent/player meetings
  • Fundraising
  • Team building

Required equipment:

  • Baseball glove
  • Baseball cleats
  • Navy batting helmet
  • Bat

Optional equipment:

  • Catcher’s glove and protective gear

The league will provide the required uniform: jerseys, pants and hat. Players also require protective athletic support, a navy belt and navy baseball socks. Team equipment for 13U & younger will include catcher’s gear, although some players prefer to use their own.

Barrie Minor Baseball Rep teams play in the York Simcoe Baseball Association (YSBA), an affiliate of Ontario Baseball Association (OBA). Team selection begins in late August and September with fall tryouts, which leads to team activities starting in October and indoor winter workouts from January to April. League play starts the first week of May against other teams in Simcoe County, York Region, parts of Durham Region and Toronto.
