Minor Bantams Take AA OBA Championship
2016-09-04The Barrie Red Sox Minor Bantam AA team went undefeated to win the OBA Championship in Brantford on Labour Day weekend.
The team began the tournament with a 7-6 extra inning victory over Guelph. Highlights included a 4-run bottom of the 7th comeback and a walkoff hit to win the game. Barrie then defeated Hamilton 5-2, followed by a 20-5 victory over St. Catharines. The team was then victorious 8-5 over league rival Bloordale, setting up a rematch with Guelph in the finals. Barrie won the final 2-0, which saw Zack Dennis pitch a 3-hit complete game shutout. Other final game highlights included Charlie Martin catching 3 opposing runners stealing and Rylee Hlusiak with an RBI double and very strong defence at shortshop. This is the team’s 3rd Provincial OBA title win in a row.
