COVID-19 Update - June 22, 2020
2020 House League Season Cancelled. Option to donate Registration Fees to Barrie Food Bank
To all House League registrants:
Barrie Minor Baseball's Board of Directors has been meeting virtually on a regular basis since mid-March, to discuss the impacts of COVID-19 on this year's baseball season. It is with deep regret that we must now announce the 2020 House League season is cancelled.
This decision was not made lightly, and we waited as long as we could to see if a shortened season would be possible. Although things are looking up and the province is gradually reopening, game play is not allowed under Stage 2 of Ontario's framework, and we do not know if it will be allowed under Stage 3. Since the House League program is focused on game play, it simply does not make sense to delay this decision any longer, when it is possible that games will not be allowed at any point this season.
Thank you to everyone who completed our recent member survey, as it was important for us to consider your input. A good majority of House League families that responded felt that it was time to cancel, and we have listened.
For those wishing to help our community, we are providing the option to donate your registration fees to the Barrie Food Bank in lieu of having them refunded. Please complete this form to make your donation. If you wish to donate for more than one player, please complete multiple forms. The cutoff date to make your donation is Sunday June 28th.
For all other registrants, all house league fees paid will automatically be refunded starting June 29th. Please be patient as it may take our volunteers a couple of weeks to complete this task.
Although we all miss baseball and are saddened by this decision, we know it is the right decision at this time. We hope you will find ways to continue enjoying baseball over the summer, and look forward to seeing you on the field next year! Registration for the 2021 House League season is expected to open later this fall.
Should the current situation improve to the point where larger group gatherings are permitted we will look into the possibility of running a skill development program for our House League players. This would be completely voluntary and we would communicate all details should it become available.
